About the Critical Pedagogy Lab

The Center for Black, Brown, and Queer Studies (BBQ+) is an independent Center dedicated to interdisciplinary research, pedagogy, and mentorship in critical race, Indigenous, postcolonial, and queer studies. BBQ+ is excited to share that we have partnered with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for a new collaborative initiative in the form of the BBQ+ Critical Pedagogy Lab!

The Critical Pedagogy Lab (CPL) is dedicated to research and pedagogical innovation in higher education. It focuses on providing an inclusive environment and developing infrastructure for diversity in higher education. Our partnership with the Sloan Foundation aims to address these challenges by developing digital solutions and training protocols for teaching in higher education to enhance access for and improve the experience of traditionally marginalized groups in academia.

Project Goals

Throughout this year-long project, the Critical Pedagogy Lab has the following goals:

  • Identify and analyze challenges faced by marginalized students and scholars in virtual classrooms.

  • Develop digital tools for effective, equitable virtual learning for individuals from all backgrounds.

  • Revise and develop new pedagogical approaches and syllabi that leverage digital solutions.

  • Develop pedagogical tools to maximize the possibilities offered by virtual learning.
